Frequently asked questions

What makes WoolAid's merino wool "medical grade"?

WoolAid’s merino wool has passed toxicology testing and is manufactured under ISO 13485 certification, the international quality standard for medical devices. Combined with merino’s natural breathability, moisture management and softness, this helps ensure WoolAid products are safe and comfortable for direct skin contact.

Is merino wool hypoallergenic? Won't it irritate my skin?

WoolAid uses superfine 17–19 micron merino, roughly one third the diameter of a human hair. At this fineness, the fibres bend easily against the skin, helping create a soft, comfortable feel rather than the prickly sensation associated with coarser wool.

Is this adhesive safe for skin contact?

Yes. This is a medical-grade adhesive specifically designed for skin. The Duro-Tak family of adhesives has been used in medical products for decades. The safety warnings on the data sheet refer to the concentrated liquid form during manufacturing—by the time it’s on your bandage and the solvents have evaporated, it’s gentle and hypoallergenic. It won’t cause sensitization or allergic reactions in most people, and it’s formulated to be kind to skin while still sticking reliably.

How does merino wool help with temperature regulation on skin?

Merino naturally regulates temperature, insulating when it is cold and releasing heat and moisture when warm. Research from the University of Otago and Victoria University found merino helped keep skin cooler and drier than polyester, supporting greater comfort and reducing trapped heat and moisture under products worn against the skin.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. WoolAid ships worldwide from New Zealand via NZ Post and its international delivery partners. Estimated delivery is 3–6 business days to Australia and 5–10 business days to the rest of the world after dispatch.
