The WoolAid Story
As a school boy, our founder Lucas worked holidays as a Stockman on New Zealand's High Country Stations helping produce superfine merino wool. This opened up the wonders of the world of wool for Lucas who saw these stations supply merino to outdoor clothing companies to luxury fashion houses.
Lasting six months at University, Lucas found himself mountain guiding on the Milford and Routeburn hiking trails. These trails cross through Fiordland National Park; 3.1 million acres of awesomely inhospitable country. The Sandflies, landslides, avalanches, and 9 meters of yearly rain are all indicators that you’re very much a guest in these lands of Te Rua-o-Te-Moko.
A world heritage area, only 90 people a day are allowed on the Milford trail. Those lucky enough to make the trail head all had good reasons for wanting five days in the mountains; Honeymoons, reunions, space from it all. Many new boots met the Milford Trail and generally by lunchtime on the second day, blisters were the main focus; Not the mountains.
The answer at the time was a plastic bandage. Plastic doesn’t stand up well to Fiordland National Park standards. Constantly sweating off, inadequate for the job at hand and often littered on the trail. Afterall, you could enjoy the benefits of merino on your skin from outdoor clothing.
Why was nobody making bandage material from merino wool?
We are honoured and privileged to present you WoolAid; The next generation of performance medical grade merino wool textiles.
